The publication, in recent years, of the splendid edition in five volumes of Gadda’s works (edited by Dante Isella and a group of young philologists), and the ever-increasing critical interest in this writer, crowned by the 1993 celebra tions of the centenary of his birth, seem finally to have consecrated him as one of the great authors (some even suggest the greatest) in Italian letters of the century.
